The Building.

Located in the heart of the Ernest Cook Trust estate that surrounds Trent village, this picturesque rural gem dates back to the 14th century, when it was built to house the builders of St Andrews church spire and still retains much of its original character and features, including huge open fireplaces, lowish ceilings complete with period beams and the owners have created a beautifully relaxed environment where the art of good food and dining are practised with great care and attention and if you visit here, you will come back again and again.

Dining areas.

The Rose and Crown is all about relaxed enjoyment and whether you come to dine or just to sample the the beer and wine, you will go away with a large smile on your face but it is the food that brings people from miles around.

There are three dining areas inside the building and in the summer, alfresco dinning in the garden or just outside the front of the pub but it is in the interior where the real character is best sampled. The Barrow lounge is a wonderful relaxing area of the pub with a large open fire and comfortable leather sofa and it is just like sitting in your own Country house.

The restaurant has wonderful views out over the valley and the far end of the main bar looks out over the fields, all the way to Nether Compton. The food compliments it’s surrounding with good quality local produce with some traditional British food dishes, entwined with some of Chef’s own creations that diversify from a simple sandwich to a Fillet Steak. This is food at its very best and this pub is highly recommended.

The village.

Trent is a beautiful chocolate box Dorset village full of old, facsinating period buildings and is steeped in history. For example, King Charles the 2nd hid at Trent House, the home of Colonel Francis Wyndham, for several days in the 17th Century whilst attempting to escape to France.
