The Ship Inn is a beautiful period building dating back to 1750 and retains many features from throughout the ages. The bar and dining areas have beautiful large flagstone floors, there are beams and interior stone work and the feel is very warm and welcoming, but the reason you should come here is the food. The Ship Inn is very famous for its food, put simply it is exceptional and the welcome you will receive will bring you back again and again.

Built in 1750, we are a privately owned traditional Coaching Inn located in the picturesque Dorset village of West Stour. We specialise in providing exceptional food and our restaurant offers a wide variety of quality dishes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible and from our bar, we serve an interesting selection of real ales, beers and wines that are guranteed to make your visit feel very special.
Our Accommodation.
Being a Coaching Inn, we also provide accommodation in seven en-suite bedrooms each individually styled to reflect the character of the building and our unique ambience and stylish but warm décor, offers you the opportunity to relax and enjoy yourself and the surrounding countryside, whether you are simply stopping by for a drink or one of our special dishes or staying for business or pleasure.
Each of our seven bedrooms are en-suite, individually designed and decorated with all of the comforts and touches you would expect and desire from a Coaching Inn and most have sunning views of the surrounding countryside.
Our Rates
Our rates offer exceptional value as well with a single room costing £55.00 per night. A double room costing £80.00 per night. Our smaller family room which sleeps up to 3 people costing £100.00 per night and the larger one, which sleeps up to 4 people, costing £120.00 per night. All rates include vat and a full English breakfast to really set you up for the day.
The gardens.
At the rear of the building we have a large, secure garden area that allows al fresco dining in the summer and an extensive area to just relax and chill out with your friends and family. The pretty “sun trap” patio and large child-friendly beer garden provides an oasis of calm and was specifically designed to create a relaxing and enjoyable area to eat and drink.

The patio area has a charming water feature, chunky pub tables and umbrellas together with patio heaters available as the summer evenings draw in. There is plenty to entertain the little ones whilst Mum and Dad take a well earned lunch / dinner break, with a climbing frame, slide and swing all enclosed within the wall lined garden.

Yes, we provide seven beautiful rooms full of period features and comfortable beds and furnishings, each with a double bed and en-suite facilities. There are three different dining areas and the garden area outside for those warm summer days and each table has its own unique feel from intimate dining through to large gatherings.

We cater for many different types of function from Beer Festivals in our garden where over 400 people regulary attend through to intimate family gatherings so please call and tell us your requirements and we will be happy to cater for you.
Price Range:
We are a traditional Country Inn which means we provide good food at exceptional prices. As an example, a two course meal is around £10.00 - £15.00 but please check with us when you arrive because our specials offer even greater value.
Menu Summary:
Our dishes are a blend of the traditional and the very special and we have Specials and Fresh Fish Board that offer additional daily choices for the discerning diner. All dishes are freshly prepared and cooked to order and we also provide a children’s menu and of course, every dish on the menu is available at a child’s sized portion so your children can enjoy exceptional food as well.
